A day in the life...
 
Reporting to the Director, Communications & Engagement, the Student Programming Coordinator works within the Communications and Engagement team of the Goodman School of Business (GSB) and is responsible for developing, implementing and assessing programs and opportunities that engage the wider Goodman School of Business student body and builds a spirit of belonging to Goodman.
 
As the Student Programming Coordinator, you will...
 
  • Develop, implement and oversee a program for student ambassadors to represent Goodman at events and act as welcome/information desk staff.
  • Hire, train and oversee student ambassadors for kiosk (information desk) and other duties.
  • Ensure proper working conditions and expectations for all student ambassadors including all HR aspects and any Workday requirements.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the kiosk operations including maintaining the kiosk schedule.
  • Develop and implement ongoing opportunities and events that are inclusive of all Goodman students and foster a spirited and prideful environment.
  • Develop, implement and coordinate continual programming/events to engage students regularly in the Goodman School of Business Atrium.
  • Coordinate, implement, monitor and evaluate student engagement programs to promote the personal development of a diverse student population.
  • Ensure proper risk management approvals take place as needed.
  • Collaborate with Student Leadership Coordinator and student life units across Brock to co-create engagement programming for Goodman Students (Foundations in Leadership, Experience Plus etc.).
  • Work with faculty and students to fully coordinate student participation in competitions such as ICBC.
  • Work with the Alumni Coordinator to develop alumni/student mentorship opportunities.
  • Arrange for any required purchases and prepare appropriate expense claims.
  • Responsible for organizing, coordinating and implementing all aspects of Welcome Week (formerly Orientation Day) activities for the Goodman School of Business.
  • Work with the Business Students’ Association and the Brock University Student’s Union as well as the Brock Welcome Week committee to ensure all Goodman Welcome Week activities adhere to the Universities protocols and vision and work into the approved schedule.
  • Hold a seat on the campus-wide orientation planning committee and provide updates on behalf of the GSB.
  • Arrange for any required purchases and prepare appropriate expense claims as pertains to Welcome Week. 
  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure that student communication is effective, consistent and coordinated.
  • Use Campaign Monitor  or similar software to send all required mass emails to students.
  • Investigate and utilize other communications methods to effectively reach the student population.
  • Respond to student engagement inquires via email or through the Goodman student portal.
  • Direct supervision of Student Ambassadors (10-20).
 
What you need to succeed...
 
  • An undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business or a closely related field.
  • Two to five years experience in an academic capacity, preferably in a post-secondary institution.
  • Strong understanding of the student experience with the ability to coach, mentor, motivate and demonstrate leadership.
  • Ability to research, learn, teach , train and disseminate knowledge.
  • Extensive event planning and time management skills, the ability to juggle multiple and competing priorities, and meet concurrent deadlines.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn and a high level of self-motivation and autonomy.
  • Knowledge of student engagement trends, post-secondary best practices, and legal requirements.
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to compose, proofread, and edit written materials.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and effectiveness when providing workshops and presentations.
  • Working knowledge of social networking sties (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.)
  • Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office (Word, excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) web applications, internet search engines, social media, and ability to adapt to custom software such as Workday, Brock DB, and CVENT.
  • Past experience supervising staff/volunteers.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to relate to and gain the confidence of, the student demographic.
  • Strong communication skills and the proven ability to communicate professionally when interacting with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Advanced written, oral and interpersonal communications skills and professional public speaking ability.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, motivate and demonstrate leadership.
  • Ability to be innovative, flexible, and adaptable to a readily changing environment.
  • Conflict resolution skills with the ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to probe, analyze, and develop solutions for unique circumstances.
  • Extra and irregular hours required throughout the year to meet deadlines.
 
Preferred or Asset Skills:
 
  • Understanding of student government/student unions an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of event planning and project management.
 
Salary and Benefit Information
 
  • Job Grade J, $47,455.00 - $63,027.00

Director, Organizational Design & Development

The Alumni Coordinator will create, facilitate, implement, and promote programming, initiatives, and events to engage alumni and students and continuously seek to enhance the Goodman Alumni Network (GAN) and foster growth.
